Check out these interactive and fun websites that relate to our current “Light Unit” in Science.

There’s a neat “optical illusion” at this site:

Here’s an interactive animation of how shadows are formed.  Go to this website, and then click on “interactive whiteboard activity.”

“The Amazing Eye”!!!  Here is a webpage that shows a diagram of the eyeball and tells about light’s “journey into the eye.”

What We Are Learning In Fourth Grade!

Published by JoJo Liebig under General

Bible Memory Verses: Our 4th graders worked hard at memorizing their 166-word September Bible Verse, Isaiah 53:1-6.  This verse vividly brought to our minds and hearts what Jesus did for each of us (”…he was wounded for our transgressions, he was bruised for our iniquities…with his stripes we are healed…the Lord hath laid on him the iniquity of us all.”)  This verse went along well with our September study of God’s Plan of Salvation.    For October, the fourth graders will be memorizing the order of the 66 books of the Bible.  We will be studying the stories of Genesis.

Math:  We continue to work at memorizing our multiplication facts, with our goal of being able to say each fact within 3 seconds.  There have been some big improvements since 6 weeks ago!  This has resulted in increased speed and accuracy in the students’ math work.

We have also been working hard at converting the English Measurements of:  inches/feet/yards, ounces/pounds/tons, and ounces/cups/pints/quarts/gallons.

Of course, we have also been working hard with:  adding, subtracting, multiplying dividing, money, place value, and story problems.

Reading:  Students are enjoying reading the novel “Song of the Brook.”  With the main character also being in 4th grade, there are many emotions, thoughts, and circumstances in the book that fourth graders are able to relate to.   There are also many wonderful Biblical messages throughout the book.

Ohio History:  We are finishing our chapter on Historic American Indians of Ohio.  In this chapter, the students learned about how the Indian tribes used legends to explain how something came to be.  Students got to try out writing their own legend.  We have a lot of creativity in our classroom.  Some of the topics include:

“Why the Giraffe’s Neck is Long”, “Why The Butterfly Flies”, “Why the Frog Jumps”, “How the Zebra Got His Stripes”, “How the Butterfly Got It’s Name”, “How the Rainbow Got in the Sky”, “How the Rat Got a Long Tale”, “Why the Lightning Bugs Light”, “How the Rat Got At the Bottom of the Food Chain”, and “Why the Eagle is Bald”

Science:  Students have been learning about the Respiratory, Digestive, Nervous, and Urinary Organ Systems.
